Major order for ZIM Aircraft Seating despite Covid-19 pandemic and aviation crisis

Following the great success of the first ZIM PC-01 Premium Economy seat product range, the Lufthansa Group has selected the new generation of this seat type, the so-called PC-02 from ZIM Aircraft Seating, for 19 aircraft of its Lufthansa Boeing B747-8 flagship aircraft and for other Airbus A330 SWISS aircraft.

“In the long-lasting Covid-19 crisis, the awarding of this project to ZIM Aircraft Seating is a very good sign of the future direction of commercial aviation and points to a recovery in flight activities. The entire ZIM Aircraft Seating team is very proud that we hit the right nerve in the market with our new PC-02 product development and were able to win over two strong partners as launch customers with Lufthansa and SWISS,” says Sven Achilles, Managing Director of ZIM Aircraft Seating. In addition to ZIM Aircraft Seating's existing order backlog, the order further secures the company for the future and provides a positive outlook for the next few years.

The ZIM PC-02 sets new standards of comfort and privacy in the premium economy class. The highly innovative seat features a number of remarkable innovations that improve the overall passenger experience and comfort. For example, the seat has excellent mechanical kinematics, which are enclosed in a fixed backrest shell structure. It also offers significantly more privacy and an integrated privacy screen, which creates more personal space for all passengers. The ZIM PC-02 also offers a variety of other amenities, including individually adjustable armrests, a cocktail table, a one-piece dining table, a personal reading light and an extra large IFE screen.

The ZIM Aircraft Seating PC02 seats are delivered with various equipment and finish variants for Lufthansa and SWISS in order to adapt the seat according to each airline's design scheme. The new ZIM PC-02 premium economy seat will be installed at SWISS (A340 and B777) in Q1/2022 and will also be installed for Lufthansa in the new B777-9, A350 and B787 in the future. ZIM Aircraft Seating and Lufthansa Group worked closely with a joint team approach very early on and with great success in the development phase of the new seats to create a unique seat design and experience.
